We chat with Acme Comics manager Jermaine Exum about slinging comics and how he embodies his self-proclaimed "Lord Retail" status.

Support Your Local Comic Shop is a podcast series where we talk with rad comic book retailers about selling comics in 2025. It's published exclusively on our Patreon but is unlocked and free for all. This week, we're chatting with Jermaine Exum from Acme Comics in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Last week, before attending HeroesCon in Charlotte, North Carolina, we drove up to Greensboro and visited both Acme Comics locations. Jermaine Exum, known throughout comicdom as Lord Retail, gave us a tour of their 2150 Lawndale Dr. location and happily agreed to go on the record about his twenty-five years of comic book retail experience.
Our latest Support Your Local Comic Shop podcast episode with Jermaine discusses the challenges facing stores in 2025. We dig into his comic book origin, the store's exceptional reputation, the beloved Acme Bat mascot, and why a Transformers nook is vital to their business and general workplace happiness. The comics retail environment is in a state of flux (as if it's ever been stable), and Jermaine Exum considers with us what Acme Comics might look like ten years from now...god willing, it's still around.
Name a rad comic book creator (Chris Samnee, Joe Kubert, Will Eisner, etc.), and they've probably crossed the Acme Comics threshold at some point. They are a Greensboro community hub and an online sanctuary thanks to Jermaine's tireless work connecting to the community through their online social channels. Make sure you visit their website, and if you ever find yourself in North Carolina, you must visit them.
