We chat with Books with Pictures founder/owner Katie Pryde about inclusion within a retail space.

Support Your Local Comic Shop is a podcast series where we talk with rad comic book retailers about selling comics in 2025. It's published exclusively on our Patreon but is unlocked and free for all. This week, we're chatting with Katie Pryde from Books with Pictures in Portland, Oregon.
Comics are for everyone. Sure, yeah, that should be easy to agree upon. But what does that actually look like for the publisher, the creator, the reader, and the retailer? For this month's Support Your Local Comic Shop episode, we're traveling to the Pacific Northwest and chatting with the founder/owner of one of the world's best comic book stores, the 2022 Eisner-winning Books with Pictures. Katie Pryde puts everything of herself into her store and has built an incredibly warm, welcoming, and essential center for the comics community of Portland, Oregon.
Please visit the Books with Pictures website. They are here "for everyone, and especially: queer folks, Black folks, Indigenous folks, Latinx folks, AAPI folks, women, neurodivergent folks, people with disabilities, and all of our amazing neighbors." Those neighbors, by the way, include you. Whether you're a resident of Portland or not, you can shop from their store, seek recommendations, and purchase mystery grab bags.
As always, we discuss comic book origin stories, the path from comics loving to comics selling, how Books with Pictures differs from other local comic book shops, and how Katie Pryde and her team maintain the mission of "Comics for Everyone."
If you find yourself in Portland at any point, visit Books with Pictures at 1401 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202. Until then, you should follow their socials: Instagram and Facebook.
