Rodney Barnes in the Stacks at Third Eye Comics

Rodney Barnes, the filmmaker and writer behind Killadelphia, picks his three favorite comic books in The Stacks at Third Eye Comics.

Are you ready for a treat? Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia, 30 Days of Night: Falling Sun) picks his all-time favorite comic books from The Stacks at Third Eye Comics in Annapolis, Maryland. Among his favorites are the iconic Saga of the Swamp Thing run by Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, & John Totleben; Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns; and the real surprise, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. King Kong.

A few immediate thoughts about those three comics. One, it’s hard to believe that Rodney Barnes is the first comic book creator in The Stacks to select The Dark Knight Returns. This week actually marks the fortieth anniversary of TDKR’s publication, and as Barnes discusses, we’re all still surfing in its wake. Two, Saga of the Swamp Thing has been mentioned a few times in The Stacks, once by our own Lisa Gullickson. With Vertigo Comics relaunching this month, it’s fun to reflect on this series, as it's where the Vertigo brand originated and solidified. Finally, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. King Kong?! WTF? It’s with that selection that Rodney Barnes proves himself a real one.
