Often, it feels like the only thing getting us through this life is Wednesday, New Comic Book Day. And that sensation, no doubt, will only intensify in the coming months...years. The Comic Shop is more than an oasis; it's a sanctuary, and we claim it every week. No one understands this better than actor, writer, and producer Cheyenne Ewulu. Last year, she unveiled a proof of concept trailer for her comic shop satire, and it went viral, sparking intense anticipation from folks like us.

Now, it's time to transform The Comic Shop into a proper series. To get that done, Ewulu is turning to you via crowdfunding. The Comic Shop Kickstarter launches on November 12th, promising many tiers and tremendous stretch goal hope. While the series is a mockumentary delight, it contains genuine love for the comics industry and a lot of truth and honesty.

As Stephanie Okeke, the owner and operator of Oh Em Gee Comics, Ewulu correctly discerns, "Nobody gets into the comic book industry because they love money. They get into it because they love comics." When you watch the proof of concept trailer, the passion for this medium and the people who love it radiates from every frame. Obviously, anyone reading these words would also purchase a "new comic book" air freshener.

Below, you'll find the official press release for The Comic Shop. Read it, absorb the talent involved in it, and get hyped for the November 12th Kickstarter launch date. You might as well follow our example and click the "Notify Me on Launch" button. Supporting your local comic book store and creators like Cheyenne Ewulu has never been more critical. It's on us to build the world we want to live in.

"THE COMIC SHOP" LAUNCHES KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR INNOVATIVE SITCOM SERIES

LOS ANGELES, CA - Following its successful festival run and growing online presence, the highly anticipated mockumentary sitcom "The Comic Shop" is set to launch its Kickstarter campaign on November 12th, 2024. Created by Nigerian-American multi-hyphenate Cheyenne Ewulu (known online as CheyenneTheGeek), this innovative series represents a fresh voice in independent production.

The sitcom, which garnered immediate attention after its proof of concept trailer went viral with 1.7 million Twitter views, follows four misfit friends struggling to keep their beloved comic book store afloat in the digital age. The project has already made waves in the festival circuit, screening at prestigious venues including the Micheaux Film Festival (where it received nominations for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Digital Series), Atlanta Film Festival (with an encore screening), and Black Girls Rock Film Festival.

"The Comic Shop" features an impressive ensemble cast including accomplished voice actor Zeno Robinson ("My Hero Academia," "Young Justice") as Keith Hendricks, creator Cheyenne Ewulu ("Ex Roommate") as Stephanie Okeke, Shanae Cole ("Grown-ish") as Dominique Smith, and Grayson Niles ("The Goldbergs," "The Party") as Connor Ross. Blending the workplace comedy style of "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation" with authentic geek culture, the series promises to deliver both laughs and heart.

The production team DYNMC, known for their work with Green Day, The Oscars, and HULU, brings their exceptional production value to the project. Their involvement ensures the series will maintain the highest quality standards in independent production.

The Kickstarter campaign, launching November 12th with a funding goal of $160,000, aims to produce a first season consisting of six episodes, each running up to 20 minutes. Backers can look forward to unique rewards including opportunities to appear in the show, product placement options, and an exclusive Q&A session with voice actor Zeno Robinson. Stretch goals will enable additional episodes, enhanced production quality, and the possibility of an original theme song.

"Growing up, I never saw people who looked like me represented in geek spaces. Especially not on television." says Ewulu. "The Comic Shop isn't just about making people laugh – it's about showing that nerd culture belongs to everyone, and that our stories deserve to be told."

For fans of sitcoms, comic book culture, or anyone looking for fresh voices in television, "The Comic Shop" represents an exciting new direction in storytelling. The series promises to deliver not only laughs but also authentic representation of often-overlooked communities in mainstream media.
