We discuss Darkwing Duck: The Duck Knight Returns with TMNT: Saturday Morning Adventures artist Sarah Myer!

Sarah Myer The Duck Knight Returns Interview

Welcome to Married to Singles, a new Patreon Exclusive podcast series where we ask comic creators, professionals, podcasters, and fans to choose their favorite single-issue comic and discuss it with us. In this entry, Sarah Myer selects Darkwing Duck: The Duck Knight Returns, originally published by Boom Studios. Listen to the whole conversation HERE.

Beware! The terror that flaps in the night arrives on the site today thanks to the Eisner-nominated cartoonist behind Monstrous and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures. Sarah Myer is a brilliant comic book brain, born from the same pop culture primordial soup as us and probably you. Their passion for cartoons, movies, and comics flows through everything they create, and we're ecstatic to discuss one of their favorite single-issue comics (and the whole dang trade that comes after it).

Married to Singles is our Patreon podcast series where we celebrate the comic book single issue alongside an impassioned creator. They pick the comic, we do the homework, and together we uncover the beauty that only this medium can muster. When we asked Sarah Myer to participate, they came back almost immediately with The Duck Knight Returns. Obviously, this series offers a firm wink to superhero aficionados with its title, but its interiors are more interested in highlighting the genius of the original Darkwing Duck animated series.

Too often in the LCS, we hear the reckless dismissal of licensed comic books from certain die-hard readers. However, if not for licensed comics, who knows if Comic Book Couples Counseling would even exist? As if you haven't heard Brad mention it a million times on the podcast already, he began reading with G.I. Joe and Marvel's Robocop 2 adaptation. His path is not an isolated one, and when licensed comics are done well, they create infinite future possibilities on both sides of the page.
